I’ve been suffering quite badly with anxiety due to the coronavirus pandemic and there are times I think I am getting better, then I end up back at square one. So, it got me thinking about how I have got through this coronavirus pandemic and what steps I have taken to focus on other things rather than the crippling anxiety.
I have had anxiety in some form since a child, so being anxious is a part of my life. My anxiety symptoms and severity does change. Things such as the time of year, seasons, things going on with me, stress and other factors can make my anxiety worse or better.
But I do have many ways to manage my anxiety and whether it is acute or a permanent feature, different things will work. So here are 10 anxiety relieving tips you can try and see how you get on?
How To Cope With Anxiety Due To The Coronavirus Pandemic
Whether you choose something as a distraction technique, a hobby or supplements, the following ways are helpful for coping with anxiety due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Blogging/Writing
When dealing with anxiety due to the coronavirus pandemic, one thing that has really gotten me through it is writing on my blogs. Although I haven’t got personal really, thinking about what I am writing, then creating the imagery and information to go into the blog posts really helped keep my mind busy and my anxiety under control.
I have tried not to write about my feelings, especially surrounding anxiety as I find it can set me off. So you might want to find something to write about that brings you passion and joy. Even if it talking about something you have done today. There are some things you need to consider when starting a blog and you can think about whether you want a free platform like Blogger or WordPress, or set yourself up as self-hosted.
Whether you publish it or not, is entirely up to you. I have over 100 drafts I have not published as I wanted to just write and I can look at them whenever I am feeling blue and remember why I had written that particular piece. You can find some really exciting publishing companies in India that can help you get your written works out there.
It’s also a great way to bring your heart rate down and make you relaxed and focused. Plus, later down the line, you can consider making an income with blogging.
Supplements
There are many supplements out there, from CBD to Lavender oil capsules. They can calm you and bring your anxiety levels down. A natural supplement that is commonly used is CBD oil but you need to make sure you are using the right CBD dosages to ensure you are getting the right amount for the reason you are using it. Another alternative is medical marijuana, which can help reduce the feelings anxiety may bring on as it can ground you. There are numerous companies such as Hyper Wolf, that can provide you with marijuana products like west coast cure, that you potentially could benefit from to calm your anxieties down.
You need to be mindful of the laws surrounding medical cannabis wherever it is in the world that you are – for example, the state of Arizona doesn’t qualify anxiety as a condition for medical cannabis so you might struggle with a prescription if you are there.
Music
Music is really good therapy for me. I have different genres I listen to, depending on my mood. It’s one of my tips for dealing with anxiety during the pandemic.
I’ve subscribed to Amazon Music and got 3 months absolutely free. This was great as I could listen to everything I enjoy, there is a lot more on Amazon Music than Spotify, well in my opinion anyway.
I also use music to boost my mood and play something I know I can’t resist dancing it. Whether it is pop-punk, heavy metal, rap or a good soundtrack like the Dirty Dancing Soundtrack, I find something I like and enjoy the sounds coming into my ears.
Although, be mindful of what you listen to. Some music can encourage an increased heart rate and cause more symptoms of anxiety. Calming music is a great way to lower the heart rate and also promote calming and a relaxing atmosphere.
Meditate
Whether you listen to meditation music or find a guided mediation, there are many meditations out there that are targeted for anxiety.
My favourite kinds of guided meditations help me control my breathing and if I know what my anxiety attack is from, I can try looking for something more targeted to that.
YouTube has 1000s of meditations from the music only to guided and also plenty of affirmation style chants. Find one you can resonate with and let yourself relax in a quiet place. I love to lie on my bed, with a sleeping mask over my eyes and headphones in. This allows me to block the world out and fully integrate into the meditation.
Yoga
Yoga is fantastic for calling yourself, stretching out your body and getting your endorphins rushing around your body. But it is much gentler so you don’t get the adrenaline rush like if you were to go for a run which can make anxiety worse. Especially if you suffer from panic attacks.
You can put on some gentle music, aromatherapy and just stretch it out, allowing every part of you to be quiet and focused. Yoga can change your life.
I finished 30 days of Yoga and the change in my anxiety levels was amazing. I was finally able to breathe and as I continue Yoga in my daily life, things became easier to cope with.
Aromatherapy
I have been using aromatherapy for anxiety for a very long time and you will see I have a lot of posts and tips for dealing with anxiety. I’ve had to adapt and change the essential oils I have used for anxiety due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Make sure you get scents you like too and a good diffuser will help you along the way. I would also point out that you need to make sure you know how to use essential oils, I have a guide for how to use essential oils safely.
Colouring
I absolutely love spending my time colouring and enjoying using adult colouring books that come in a fantastic range of themes. If you love flowers, you can choose the flower colouring books or even Disney%20colouring%20books which are great too.
Talking about pens, I use Staedler fine liner pens rather than pencils or felt tips. Just because I find the fine liner pens don’t bleed through the pages and are much easier to use.
Colouring will help you focus on something other than the anxiety, it helps you clear your mind and focuses on something other than what is making you anxious or just helping you calm your heart rate and relax.
Reading
I have many books, Kindle books and physical copies. I’ve just finished The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner and I only read this when I was anxious. I went through a period of extreme anxiety and I read it within a week.
You want to find a book that you find interesting, something you can get lost in and focus on something else other than your anxiety.
Watching things
Most people have a subscription, like Netflix or Amazon Prime. With there having many shows and films you can watch, even documentaries of various subjects.
Recently, I have been on a Crime spree on Netflix because I had anxiety due to the coronavirus pandemic and needed to keep my mind off it. I’ve also binged the music documentaries on Amazon Prime too because they are fantastic!
Sitting Outside
If you are able to use your garden for anxiety, then I highly recommend it. Or taking a walk outside, even just around the block is really beneficial.
The fresh air is wonderful for helping you clear your mind and just sitting in the garden. taking in your surroundings or even closing your eyes and laying on the grass.
Some people believe that it is great to ground yourself by lying on the grass or walking on the grass with bare feet.
Online Courses
I’ve done quite a few online courses over the last 2 years and I ramped up the amount I was doing throughout the coronavirus pandemic which has really kept my mind off the anxiety I am facing and allowing my mind to focus on other things
There are many sites like Centre Of Excellence or One Education that offer very cheap courses so you can learn something new.
The list of things I have learnt over this pandemic includes Space with my youngest son, coding, touching upon Microsoft excel, Yoga and many more things!
Final Thoughts
Keeping on top of your anxiety and promoting a calm, safe atmosphere is very important. I hope these tips will help control your anxiety due to the coronavirus pandemic.
