5 Tips For Dealing With Anxiety

Having lived with an Anxiety disorder, I thought I would share my top 5 tips for dealing with anxiety that could help you or a loved one control it in the moments of panic and stress.

Anxiety is an awful thing to live with, it can make you feel like you are no longer in control of something, yourself or a situation. Taking control might be an easy option, but not everyone is able to. So here are my tips for dealing with anxiety.

Please note that these are tried and tested by me, recommended by others. But this does not work for everyone. So be mindful that not everything will work, but it can help with some.

5 Tips For Dealing With Anxiety

Yoga/Breathing Techniques

Breathing techniques are very common and widely advised even by doctors and nurses as a way to control a panic attack and anxiety.

You can use Google or YouTube for box/square breathing to help control your breathing and help calm you.

When you try Yoga, you first learn your breathing techniques which can be used to calm yourself and also help reduce anxiety.

Yoga is also beneficial as it can help you stretch out, think about other things and distract you from what is causing the anxiety. Leaving you calm and relaxed after.

I did a 30 day yoga challenge and was astounded how less stress and anxious I was after the 30 days were up. Now it’s a regular part of my life.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a popular option for using essential oils to calm anxiety and help you feel wonderful just by changing the scent of where you are sat.

Essential oils are powerful tools for helping you relax, feel calm and help reduce the symptoms of anxiety.

I know when I have an anxiety/panic attack, the first thing I do is put on my diffuser and a blend of essential oils I have made for this particular issue. I have a few different ones, like for stress, when I am having anxious thoughts or something more.

They can be diffused, mixed with a carrier oil and applied to the skin or applied to the air around you by mixing with floral waters such as rose water.

Distraction Techniques

One option that I use the most is distraction techniques.

I started blogging when I had very severe anxiety and it really helped me keep my mind of what I was going through at the time.

I’ve found other things that have helped such as sewing, knitting, colouring and much more!

I wrote about tips for finding your inner calm which explores this more and gives you ideas of distraction techniques such as colouring.

Hobbies are the best way to keep your mind occupied and help you to distract from the issues that are causing anxiety.

You have such a wide variety of things to try, so explore the things you enjoy!

If you like to play games, games are a wonderful idea such as the Xbox, Playstation and even phones. I know gaming can get tense at times, but you can find a multitude of different ways to assist your game play, like apex legends hacks to help you beat other players and parts of the popular online game, there is of course a plethora of other options out there too!

Find a game that suits you and immerse yourself into the fun of the game.

The best games for me are hidden object or games like The Sims 4.

Teas/Herbs/Supplements

I enjoy drinking a nice cup of lavender and chamomile tea and there is an abundance of teas, herbs and supplements you can take.

Lavender capsules are a popular option and you take one a day and they work on helping you relax and feel calm.

Lemon balm tea is a wonderful option or Holy Basil (Tulsi) Tea.

Chamomile tea is the most widely used option, you can mix other herbs with it such as lavender, lemon balm and holy basil.

There are many supplements out there, but if you take medication then speak to your doctor before you try any.

CBD is a great way to integrate a natural approach into your diet, You can get different flavours and ways to consume it, from small jars of gummies to hard sweets and even get dark chocolate wholesale and save some money long term too.

Passionflower, Ashwagandha, Valerian Root, Licorice Root and Green Tea are perfect for helping your anxiety and in general, make you feel calmer.

Also consider sleep supplements like Lavender, Hops, Valerian and Passionflower can help you get a good nights sleep.

Mindfulness/Meditation

Meditation is something that I personally struggle with sometimes as my mind races really badly and I am never able to focus long enough without being distracted by something. However, meditation is a great tool if you are able to let go and let yourself relax.

I prefer guided meditation overdoing it myself as I tend to get less distracted so if you are like me, try a guided meditation instead.

You can let go, relax and allow yourself to wander into the depths of your mind. There are so many guided meditation options out there for you. From anxiety yo panic attacks, chakras and well being.

Mindfulness is something you can ask for from your Doctor, or self refer to the MIND service.

It’s now available on the NHS and I have had CBT myself (Cognitive behavioural therapy) and had tremendous results with it.

It’s worth looking into a self-referral and get some help for your anxiety.

Have you dealt with anxiety and how did you manage it? Personally, I use a mix of all above, being more aware of my body, mind and well being.
