What Important Things Do You Need To Consider When Hitting 50?
We hit an age and it gets us thinking about what important things do you need to consider when hitting 50?
When you hit 50 there are many important things you must consider and you may start to notice you are receiving letters for life insurance, funeral plans and various other things.
We hate to think about it, I know! But this is something everyone should consider for their loved ones. You need to be smart about this and consider where your estate will end up in years to come.
I remember when my Mum turned 50, she received these types of letters and was freaked out. I had told her I know it’s scary to think of but it is vital and necessary.
Since then, we have looked at funeral plans and she has taken one out to avoid any burden on her family. It was a lot easier than I thought. No idea what I thought it would be, but they take care of it all. As part of that process, we also looked into urns for funerals, making sure everything was arranged down to the last detail.
What Important Things Do You Need To Consider When Hitting 50?
When you see these things on TV they always look incredibly complicated and stressful but with a funeral plan, this is all done for you. Considering the right funeral plan can be a complete headache, so looking for a company to do it all for you is essential. There are other options to consider such as burial insurance with companies like Final Expense Direct and this covers all of your funeral expenses for you. It is something to consider about what important things do you need to consider when hitting 50?
The most important thing to think about is leaving a will and ensuring a solicitor has checked this over. I do recommend seeking legal advice regarding a will and at least have it signed and authenticated. You always have the option to change it later on if you wish.
Investments and savings are going to be crucial for you when you plan to retire. At 50, you should be pulling everything together to understand what you have available for when you plan on retiring. This allows you to include additional options such as investment planning for the future. Research options where you can find advice and support and even delve into financial planning more.
Another option to look into is of course having life insurance, and any other forms of insurance you think are necessary.
Working in the industry I know it can look really complicated and do recommend to call insurance companies, like Curo, directly and discuss this over the phone.
Always check the terms and conditions to ensure you are getting the best policy that suits your needs.
Life insurance means that you are leaving something behind to cover any costs like debts, funeral and so forth or just leaving your family some money to help them in life. The policies are great, I mean I am in my 30’s and already have life insurance just in case.
This will pay off the mortgage, update the home or be left to the children if they need it for a down payment on a mortgage, a new car or pay off student loans.
There are also specific life insurance companies out there also that tailor to your needs, for example over 50’s, over 60’s and even life insurance for the younger generation.
Cost-wise you can pay a couple of pounds a month or more depending on what you need. If you are considering life insurance, click here for more information.
I would recommend sitting down and think about the costs so for example, how much will be left on the mortgage, what are the costs for the fees for university. Also, add a little bit more just in case. Are you thinking about what important things do you need to consider when hitting 50?
For example, the policy I have is for £150,000 which will cover the mortgage, leave some behind for the children for university fee’s and so forth.
Gives my other half a bit of help regarding the costs required. You just never know do you?
Another thing to think of is your will. Writing a will is something we should all do, especially if we have something to leave and we have children and family.
Having a will is very important and ensuring you are entrusting your will to someone who will ensure everyone is entitled to receive their gifts.
For example, mine is of course my partner. Upon his passing and I live longer, then it is my eldest son.
My eldest son is very much like me, I trust him with anything like this. He is smart, got a good head on the kid and know he will make sure this is divided fairly and for example, if he sells the house, the money will be shared equally.
I have previous items passed down to my family and I want to ensure they go to the right people. Are you thinking about what important things do you need to consider when hitting 50?
I am quite direct with my things, make up etc for example will go to my goddaughter as I don’t have a daughter. (Trust me, it is a very large collection worth a lot of money)
Other things will go to my sons, like jewellery for example. I have specific pieces of jewellery they must have and pass down to their daughters etc.
I really did sit down and think about what I need to do for the future when I was talking to my Mum about her plans. It also got me thinking, what is the right age to ensure we have everything ready? I mean, you just literally never know what will happen!
You could consider this as gaining acceptance into the adults club.
I know as you get older, you wonder if you are ever too old to date and if having funeral plans, life insurance or a will might need to change depending on how serious things can get.
I think the sooner you get the ball rolling, you will have no worries about the future.
Have you considered writing your will, setting up life insurance or sorting out your funeral plans? Are you thinking about what important things do you need to consider when hitting 50?
