Where Will My Estate End Up In Years To Come?

Talking to my family recently about what will happen when I, you know… am no longer around. I had this thought ‘Where will my estate end up in years to come?’

I don’t just mean once I go, as I have this taken care of in my will, but what will my children do with it when they decide to write their own will?

Will they pass it over to family, children, friend, charity, pets?

Whenever a person sits down and writes a will, their first thoughts are their beloveds, children, family.

Dividing everything up fairly to the last pence. This got me thinking about what important things do you need to consider when hitting 50?

Do they consider animals? Most don’t… but some people actually leave most or all of their estate to a beloved animal that outlived them. Of course, leaving a caretaker in charge of the money or house/s.

I would like to think of my family as cared for, even if that included an animal. I’d assume the animal would go to my family somewhere. But wouldn’t leave them something they couldn’t benefit from.

So this got me thinking even more about rich pets who gained an inheritance.

So from the Wills Lawyers, The Law House they made this interesting and funny infographic about rich animals. I had no idea this even happened, well to this extent!

A 6 million pound chicken, really? That isn’t half some expensive chicken!

A dog that owns a mansion, I think it’s hilarious! Roaming the grounds like ‘Yeah, this is mine!’ I just can;t stop laughing.

If I was a millionaire, I would leave money to charity, but doubt I would leave it to a pet.

When I wrote my will, I thought it was straight forward and easy, but it’s really not.

I thought about who I wanted to leave things to, but never considered those that I don’t who may contest my will.

I had to seek legal advice with mine and make sure it was legal and correct.
I had to make sure my assets were sectioned off and the terms and conditions of things were done correctly.
Obviously I can’t go into details, but this was not something I could do alone.

Not only that, I also had put in, my wishes for after. What to do with my body (Donated to medical science then cremated) and ashes put in a specific place.

My family know my wishes, but this way it was on paper so there was no change of minds by anyone. It is my decision. No burial, whatever.

I had my will written for me, with my terms and conditions and that was it.

I can change whenever, just update if I needed to.

No animals will be left millions by me, that is for sure!
