Gaining Acceptance Into The Adult’s Club

Adulthood. It’s the elusive goal. Like tomorrow, it never comes. When we’re young, we imagine there will come a time when we’re accepted into the ‘adult’s’ club alongside our parents. They’ve always seemed so mature and together, after all. There must be some secret that kids miss. But, as your teens turn to your twenties, you start to realise that all is not progressing as you expected. Your invitation into the adult club must have got lost in the post because you feel the same as you always did. The only difference is, you’re expected to make adult decisions. But, you’re not ready! It’s a disaster, but to let you in on a secret; we all feel that way. And, when your twenties turn to your thirties, you can be sure the adult club would have contacted you if it existed.

So, what is the secret of adulthood? Why, when your parents were your age, did they have a house, careers, and a family? Everyone will, of course, have a different take on the issue. But, we think adulthood is all down to you. Instead of waiting, you have to be proactive. Because, you can be sure it’s not going to come to you otherwise. So, here are a few things you could do to make you feel more able to face what life throws at you.

Develop your own mature attitude

Attitude is one of the most important aspects of anyone’s life. A forward-thinking attitude will get you far, while a lacklustre one will see you going backwards for all time. As adulthood hasn’t come knocking, it’s down to you to ensure you develop a more mature attitude. This, in many ways, is what will set you apart from your kid self. We’re not talking mature in a boring way, either. You can still laugh at toilet humour if the mood takes you. But, you do need to be more mature in the choices you make and your reasoning for making them. You can’t continue to make foolhardy decisions and blame your inexperience. At some point, you need to sit up and take responsibility.

It’s time to face the scary stuff

It’s also down to you to face that scary adult stuff you’ve been avoiding. You may have been waiting for the ‘right time’, but you should know by now that’s not coming. Instead, you have to do things which frighten you. That’s the way it is. So, instead of waiting until you feel emotionally ready to own a home, look for clear signs you’re ready to buy property. For the most part, a decent amount of savings a good credit score are all it takes. It may seem daunting, but you’ll be glad you took the leap when you have a place to call home.

Think, too, about pensions and life insurance. Heavy stuff, but it’s important all the same. We have all these questions these questions about insurance. At the end of the day, time won’t stop for anyone. If you don’t make plans for your future now, you’ll be in trouble before you know it. And, wouldn’t an adult put side money in this way? Of course they would! So, start paying a decent amount into your pension scheme. Remember that, the more you put in, the more you make. So, work out the largest amount you can lose a month, and put it aside. Then, turn your attention to life insurance. If you’re unsure where to start, companies like hero life cover brokers are a fantastic option. Here, you’ll be able to gain an idea of prices and find the cheapest deal available. Saves you trawling around the internet. A subject like this is best dealt with as fast as possible!

Life is not a practice run

In keeping with the above points, it’s important to notice that life is not a practice run. When we’re young, we almost approach matters with an ‘it’s only temporary attitude’. But, it’s not. This is not the lead-up; this is the real thing. As such, now is the perfect time to look at where you are and where you want to be. If you’re happy with your situation, then good for you. If not, it’s past time you decided where you would rather be instead. If you aren’t happy at work, for example, you need to work out which career is for you. The longer you leave it, the harder it’ll be to break into something new. Are you ready to start living the life you deserve?
