4 Romantic Tips to Spice Up Your Marriage

When a couple has been married for several years, it is not uncommon for the spark to fade. When you first met your partner, you no doubt experienced the terrifying thrill of attraction, passion, and desire. You spent every minute of every day thinking about them and could barely stand to be out of their sight. The early stages of the relationship were incredibly physical and scarcely a day went by when you didn’t find yourself tangled in the sheets.

But over time, this fire can die down and you are no longer so desperate to get each other’s clothes off. This is not unusual in relationships, and it certainly doesn’t lessen your love for each other. A marriage is about far more than physical attraction. Much more important are respect, communication, and shared values. As long as you are happy and in love, this is all that really matters.

But you may still find yourself longing to rekindle the spark you once shared. The good news is that you can bring it back if you both work at it. To help you out, here are four romantic tips to spice up your marriage.

Go on date nights

When you first got together, chances are you were going out on dates all the time. Clubbing, extravagant dinners, and long walks by the beach. Now you’re settled down you might find yourselves spending most evenings in front of the TV in your pajamas. Bring that excitement back into your relationship by having a date night each week. Use this time to try new things and get out of your comfort zones. Take dance lessons, eat exotic foods, or start rock climbing together. You’ll get your endorphins flowing again and learn to see each other in a new light.

Try new things in the bedroom

If you find your sex life is stuck in a rut, it might be time to mix things up a bit. Talk to your partner and, if you’re both up for it, see if there are some new activities you’d like to try. Perhaps you have a fantasy you’ve never spoken out loud, or one of you is keen to try role play, toys, or BDSM

Schedule it in

It might not be the sexiest thing to put lovemaking into your diary, but if you’re not getting down to it as often as you’d like then it’s a good idea to carve out the time. Scheduling it commits you to the task and will prevent you getting sidetracked by work, household chores or just being too tired at the end of the day. Even if you’re not feeling frisky, once you get started you will both have a great time.

Talk about it

If you feel there is a problem in your marriage, there is no shame in talking about it to a professional. A marriage counsellor can facilitate conversation and allow you to discuss your concerns and work towards a solution. You’ll both feel better for letting it out and you can make plans to rekindle that spark together.
