When you are planning a trip, most of your time is spent finding the right accommodation, booking flights, and working out what you want to see and do while you are there. But it’s equally important to take care of the essentials at home. Think about creating a home maintenance checklist before your next trip.

Making sure that your home is well looked after and secure while you are travelling will give you peace of mind, and maintenance is one of the most important things you can do to make sure that your home is in good condition when you arrive home. Any small maintenance issues like a leaking pipe, for example, can quickly turn into a serious problem if you neglect them and go away on a trip for a while. To avoid any disasters on your return, you should follow this simple maintenance checklist before you leave. 

Check Your AC Unit 

Problems with your AC unit can quickly cause a lot of damage to your home if you leave them. If there is a small leak, for example, the water will build up while you are away and lead to dampness in the walls or damage to the carpet. So, before you leave for your trip, check your AC unit over and see if there is anything that looks out of the ordinary. If you notice anything that isn’t working properly, call out a 24 Hour AC Repair company and get them to fix it for you. This will prevent any damage to your home while you are away and it also means that your home will be comfortable when you get back. The last thing you want is to be dealing with repairs when you’ve just arrived back from a long trip. 

Clear Out The Gutters

When you are in the house, you will notice this happening because you will see that the gutters are not draining properly, but if you go away for a few weeks, you won’t know there is a problem until too late. Even if you don’t expect it to rain that much while you are gone, it’s a good idea to clear out your gutters before you leave. 

Check Your Fences 

The back garden is the most common entry point for burglars, so it’s important that you secure it before you leave. Check all of the fences for any loose panels or holes where somebody could get through. Test the locks on the gates and the shed if you have one to make sure that they are not rusted and easily broken. Making a few upgrades to your fences will make your home a lot more secure. 

Test The Burglar Alarm

Hopefully, your burglar alarm will never be used but it’s there just in case. However, it’s no good if it’s not working properly, so make sure that you test it properly before you leave. You can do this by setting it as normal and then moving in front of one of the sensors. You have a short period to turn it off before it starts making a noise so you won’t upset the neighbors.
