Accessorising 101: How To Choose The Right Necklace
Necklaces are brilliant accessories to complement your outfits. Clearly, there are so many different styles and designs to choose from, so how do you make the right decision? There are different things to consider, and this guide will help you know how to choose the right necklace for you!
Understand neck sizes
A lot of people don’t bother taking their neck size when buying a necklace. This is a mistake, as you can end up getting one that’s either too big or too small for your neck. All you need to do is use a measuring tape around your neck to see how big it is, then add around 4 or 5 inches onto this. That’s how big your ideal necklace should be, giving you the right hanging length for the pendant.
Get allergy-tested
This seems like an extreme thing to do, but many women are allergic to metals like silver or some types of gold. As a result, wearing necklaces made from these metals can leave you with a nasty rash or other side effects. Get allergy tested to be sure, letting you know what metals you can wear.
Consider your height
Alongside your neck size, your height and frame will play a role in determining the size of your necklace. Typically, smaller women look better in smaller necklaces. You want to avoid ones with massive designs or pendants as they can overwhelm your frame and make you look a bit silly. Instead, subtle necklaces work best on petite frames.
Think about the pendant style
What type of pendant do you want on your necklace? This is more of a personal preference question than anything else. Are you a religious person? If so, opting for a cross or some St Christopher pendants can make sense as it reflects your religion. Are you a diamond lover? If so, a lovely diamond-encrusted pendant will look perfect on you. Do you want a necklace that commemorates someone? Name pendants work well here, as do lockets that can fit pictures inside them. Ultimately, it’s all about considering what means a lot to you and what you want the pendant to represent. This will help you find the perfect one!
Look at your wardrobe
Necklaces can be expensive – if you want high-quality ones. It makes sense to buy one that you can wear with multiple outfits. So, look at your wardrobe and consider what would match your clothes. Get a necklace that you can wear every day, with any outfit, and without it looking silly.
Alternatively, if you are buying a necklace for a specific occasion – like a wedding – you have to think about both the occasion and what you’re going to wear. This will ensure you find a necklace that suits the outfit and is suitable for the specific event. (Such as crystal necklaces worn during a hindu ceremony)
Look back through these tips to figure out how to choose the right necklace for your needs. It’s about picking the right size, finding an ideal pendant design, and selecting something that either suits daily use or a specific occasion.
