Easy Ways To Pay Off Your Personal Loans Fast

If you’ve taken out a personal loan and you’re wondering how you can pay it down early to save on interest, you’re in the right place. Let’s take a look at a few easy ways that you can pay off your personal loans fast and save big!

  1. Refinance Your Personal Loan

This may be a good option if your credit has improved since you took out your original personal loan. Refinancing is the process of taking out a new loan to repay your current loan – typically at a lower interest rate.

For example, if your lender was willing to refinance a loan with 15% interest to 5% interest because your credit profile has improved, you could save a lot of money on interest over the life of the loan. However, you will pay a little bit of money in fees when refinancing.

You can choose to refinance with your current lender, or you can look for a new personal loan provider if you think you can get a better deal elsewhere.

However, it only makes sense to refinance if you can save a lot of interest on your loan. If you try to refinance a 10% APR loan and you only get offers for 9% APR, for example, the cost of refinancing may outweigh the cost of simply keeping your loan.

  1. Make Biweekly Payments or Add Extra Cash To Your Monthly Payment

Don’t want to refinance? Another good option for paying your personal loan off more quickly is to pay biweekly. Most personal loans are paid monthly – so by paying biweekly, you’re essentially making one extra monthly payment per year. If you have a long-term, multi-year personal loan, this is a good way to shave off some of the interest you’ll pay.

If you don’t want to do that, you could also simply add some more cash to your monthly payment. Any money you pay that goes above your required monthly payment will go directly to the principal (loan balance) of the loan. If you have some extra cash at the end of the month, just add it in with your required payment.

  1. Make A Lump Sum Payment Each Year

This is a good option if you tend to get cash gifts for holidays, or if you have annual bonuses at your job. You can take the money you get and send it directly to the loan, which will reduce its balance by quite a bit. Even making just one or two lump sum payments over the lifetime of your loan will save you a lot of money in interest.
