How to improve your life when suffering from bad health

Living with a health condition can be all-consuming and cause feelings of anger and frustration as well as depression. For this reason, anything at all that you can do to inject some positivity and improve your overall quality of life when you have poor health is worth pursuing. Here are some ways that can be effective in improving your situation – whether for short or long term benefit:

Find out if you are entitled to financial help

When you are in ill health, obviously you cannot earn what you would if you were well, which can cause bills to pile up and additional pressure. Getting good information about what support you could be entitled to can drastically help to reduce that stress. A good example here shows in an easy to read chart the varying rates based on different factors.

Just having the information communicated so clearly is so much better to get your head around. If you cannot get a clear picture of your entitlements, however, it is a good idea to seek a benefits advisor to talk you through it. Why not try new healthy habits?

Set yourself a goal

Give yourself a target that you will enjoy and get satisfaction from. It doesn’t have to be big, but just even thinking about something new that you fancy doing can give you a boost. Take small steps and use little achievements to give you the confidence to go on from there. This will really help you when suffering from bad health.

It might be something as simple as trying out a different food you’ve never tasted before each week or trying to read that book you just never got around to. Once you’re feeling confident enough, you can then maybe join a class or group based on a new hobby, whether it is learning a new language or a skill such as computers.

Ask for help

Often when we feel overwhelmed, our first instinct is to hide it from everybody around us. We don’t want to admit that we feel like things have got on top of us. However, admitting that we would appreciate a bit of help isn’t a sign of failure, but strength. It’s important to improve your life when suffering with bad health.

The mere step of asking for help shows that we are putting together steps to help ourselves get through this phase and get back on track. Whether it is asking for somebody to come help you get on top of household chores or grab a cup of coffee with you for a chat about how you’re feeling, it’s the first step to getting back to feeling like yourself again.

Practice mindfulness

It’s a phrase that is often thrown about these days, but what exactly is mindfulness and why do so many people swear by it? Essentially, it is about being more ‘present’ and ‘in the moment’ so that you can recognise when your thoughts are racing and making you lose a sense of perspective.

Using mindfulness to help you reconnect to the world again helps you not only stop your gain control over anxious thoughts but also learn to appreciate the beauty in everyday things. From the changing sunlight in your garden to the flavours and scents of your favorite meal, it teaches us to savour every enjoyable moment.
