Quick & Simple Bedroom Makeovers For A Romantic Valentine’s At Home
With Valentine’s Day closing in, now’s a good time to plan the big day and get working on that bedroom makeover you have in mind.
Where to start? With your bed, of course. Are there opportunities to dress your bed up with fancy bedding or make it more comfortable?
Valentine’s day is also about igniting the senses, with romantic evenings built on touches, smells, tastes, and sounds. Below, we’ve provided a few simple bedroom makeover ideas to help you make this Valentine’s Day one to remember.
Velvet bed
Need a new bed? Velvet is a super lush material that makes bedtime an even more comfortable experience. You can get divan and ottoman bases in velvet in various colours to suit your taste, from purple to silver.

Not a fan of velvet? Divans and ottomans are upholstered in various materials, so if you like cotton or faux leather, then those are available too. Velvet is a good choice for Valentine’s Day because it oozes class and warmth.
Tufted headboard
Tufted headboards have padding and a ‘tufted’ cover with threaded fabric secured with a button or a knot. They are luxurious and lovely to sit against, providing a warm surface preferable to wood and a cold, hard wall.
You can add an aftermarket tufted headboard with a strutted, floor-standing, or wall-mounted set configuration if you have a divan or ottoman bed. Wall-mounted headboards look great in bedrooms with high ceilings.

Upgraded mattress
Whether you’re getting it on this Valentine’s Day or just sleeping, your mattress plays a significant role in your comfort and performance.
If your mattress is over ten years old, now is an excellent time to replace it. Likewise, if you wake up with aches and pains, your mattress probably doesn’t suit how you sleep. Upgrading to a new mattress will make sleeping a nicer experience.
Pocket spring mattresses offer the most support, while memory foam mattresses contour your body. Hybrid mattresses sit in the middle.
In terms of firmness, shoot for medium, but if you weigh more than 200lbs, go for a medium-firm or firm mattress. The lighter you are, the softer your mattress should be. Side sleepers should also have a softer mattress.
Ambient lighting
With LED light strips and smart light bulbs, you can create incredible ambient lighting for your bedroom. The best part? With smart plugs, you can connect everything to your phone or home hub, letting you change the lighting with your voice.

For Valentine’s Day, fairy lights are a great option. Try installing hooks across the ceiling and walls to trail the lights around your bedroom.
Light some candles
The most straightforward trick in the book to make Valentine’s Day special is to dim artificial lighting and use candlelight as the primary lighting source. Nothing beats the warmth and charm of candlelight, especially on a romantic occasion.
You can pick up a pack of 30 or so fairy lights for a few quid at most supermarkets, or you can go for more oversized candles that’ll last a few months.
Get some flowers
Flowers don’t just make a great gift on Valentine’s Day! They can also flood your bedroom with flowery scents and add an exquisite touch of colour.
Red roses are the traditional flower of Valentine’s Day, but you might prefer pink carnations, lilies, or anemones. If in doubt, get a bouquet containing several flowers with a bit of greenery to break up all the colours.
Stimulate the senses with aromatherapy
You can get candles with essential oils, or you can go one step further with a diffuser that jets vapour into the air to fill your bedroom. Ultrasonic diffusers are a good option because they are near-silent and jet a lot of vapour.

Get a wax melt burner if you don’t fancy an oil diffuser. Wax melt burners have a bowl on top for scented wax and space for a fairy light underneath. The fairy light melts the wax to release the scents in the wax.
