The No Painting Method – Refresh Your Space Without Having To Repaint It
Want to change the look and feel of your space, but hate painting the walls? Well, the good news is it’s totally possible to refresh your space without having to repaint it. Check out our tips below.
Add a rug
There is no need to get your painting supplies out if you choose to refresh your space with a rug. The benefits of a rug are many too including making a space physically and psychologically warmer. They are easier to clean than fitted carpets and they can protect the floors they are placed over too.
When choosing a rug be sure that it’s the right size for the space in which you will use it. Around 70% of the floor space is a good rule to follow. Also, be sure that you consider the placement carefully as you can change the look of a space by setting your rug in the right place.
Replace the window treatments.
Another way to transform the entire look and feel of a space without having to paint it is to replace old window treatments with new ones. There are two types of window treatments to consider. The first of these is blinds. Blinds are a fantastic option for any space that you want to look neat and tidy at all times. Indeed, with window treatments like these Roman Blinds, you can create a modern, minimalist look with ease. Another great thing about blinds is that you will have a huge range of fabrics to choose from, so you’ll nearly always find a good match for your style.
The second type of window treatment you may wish to consider is curtains. These tend to be made from two pieces of fabric rather than one like blinds. There are also multiple different fixtures to consider from eyelets to curtains that sit on rails. Be sure you know which one you will need before you purchase your curtains otherwise, you could end up wasting money buying the wrong thing.
Change your lighting.
So many people forget that you can decorate with light very effectively if you know how. Indeed, by adding layers of light you can completely transform the look and feel of a space, with not a paintbrush in sight. You can even use smart light bulbs now, that change colour according to what you choose, literally painting the room in one light one minute and changing it to another light the next, depending on the look you are going for.
Create a focal point.
Last of all you can quickly and easily change the whole look of a space by adding a focal point. A focal point is a part of the room that draws the eye immediately when you enter and continues to do so as you use the room.
Some good examples of focal points include:
- Bedrooms – beds, mirrors, dressing tables
- Living room – sofa, TV cabinet, bay window
- Kitchen – backsplash, range cooker, island
Remember the most important aspect of a focal point is that it’s eye-catching so pay a little more attention to this area of your home decor and add a little something extra like cushions on a sofa or a vase of flowers on a table.
