Thinking About Solid Wood Flooring? Read This First!
Are you considering Solid Wood Flooring? Then maybe you need to read this before you do.
Solid Wood Flooring is a really good option for your flooring needs, but to make sure you get the best out of your floor, there are a number of things to be thinking about.
I am going to go through a number of things you should consider and watch out for when you get Solid Wood Flooring. From good quality flooring, to aftercare and repairs down the line.
You want to get the most out of your floor and look at the best ways to care for your floor.
Solid Wood Flooring – What you need to consider!
Speak to experts
The most important thing I will say is that you need to speak to several experts on Solid Wood Flooring before you consider anything.
Obtain quotes while exploring the array of options available, focusing on what sets each company apart and resonates with your specific requirements.
If you can find companies with telephone or live chat support, make the most out of it.
Ask questions
Now there is a number of types of wooden floor to choose from, also different options of how it integrates together and then of course, finishes.
Ask what is the best option for you, your needs and your home. If you have animals and children, make it known.
Each company you speak with, ask their expert opinion on what would be best suited for you but also will last you the longest and have the most wear for your money.
Choose Suppliers/Fitters Wisely
It’s very important to be choosing suppliers and fitters that you know are going to be giving you impeccable flooring, but also ensuring it is installed correctly.
Your Solid Wood Flooring should come from a reliable merchant, make sure you read the reviews, ask loads of questions and feel that you are happy with your purchase.
If you are having it fitted by a third party, please make sure they have fitted it before and that they have many years of experience. If you are unsure, ask, then ask someone else!
Do your research
With some particular woods, installation and aftercare may vary.
Also they may be finished differently and some may scratch easier, whilst others may be harder wearing.
It’s important to know what care you need to give your flooring, as some woods can become very warped with water damage, whilst others are a bit more giving.
Make an after care plan
To make sure you get the most out of your flooring, make sure you get together an aftercare plan. As well as finding the right specialist to fit your floor, consider finding the right specialist to clean it. Wood Floor Cleaning needs to be done by experts to make your floors look better and last longer.
Ensuring you follow a basis outlined above will give you long lasting protection and ensure your floor lasts the maximum amount of time as possible. And, of course, if this is something that you simply do not feel confident doing yourself, there is always the option of hiring professional hard floor cleaning services in Miami, FL, or somewhere more local, to take care of this important job for you.
Usually the seller/fitter can give you one, or it may be the case that you need to make one, below are some quick steps you can take.
Don’t – Clean with hot water, abrasive chemical/wax/citrus based products, leave water for a period of time on the floor, don’t mop, use vinegar, wear heels, soak the floor.
Do – Clean with a mild soap and damp cloth, use scratch resistant protectors on furniture, use mats, sweep often, specific cleaners, protect from sunlight, clean spills and water right away.
Ensuring you follow a basis outlined above will give you long lasting protection and ensure your floor lasts the maximum amount of time as possible.
Repairs
Should you ever need repairs or replacements, try the company you purchased the flooring from who can give you guidance on how to repair the floor. Or it may be a case of replacing one of the planks, ensure this is done through the same company you purchased from to ensure it is the same wood and replaced correctly.
Protection
You can purchase protectors for the feet of items such as chairs and tables to avoid scratching/denting. Anything heavy, consider something under to avoid the denting that may occur.
Now, if an unavoidable scratch and dent were to occur, then a wood floor cleaner (or any other type of flooring) can help in sprucing it clean.
Purchase rugs with a good grip on the underside so that your floors are protected at entrances to avoid the flooring getting wet, spoiled or scratched. Also make sure it is waterproof!
There are even specific repair kits, cleaners and other odds and bobs that will help keep your floor looking tip top! I made a specific post about caring for your floor to give more insight.
There is quite a lot to consider before you purchase and also after you purchase your flooring.
Solid wood flooring is beautiful and can last you a very long time so long as you have cared for it properly and given it the attention it really deserves.
It’s worth paying out more for a good quality wood, rather than having to replace more regularly.

Great tips Sam! Everyone should read this blog before they go through with getting wood flooring. I love your advice to put rugs with a grippy underside in places with a lot of foot traffic. I had solid wood flooring installed in my home several years ago and there are definitely pros and cons of having it. Something that I’ve found helpful is having my floors cleaned by a professional wood floor cleaner– it helps reduce scratches and dirt build-up. Can’t wait for more blog posts! 🙂
