Test Your Intolerance Review – Putting An Intolerance Test Through The Paces
It’s no secret that I have been struggling with my health since August 2021 and after a serious scare, I decided that I had to start working on my health issues myself. This meant I had to do what I could to get to the bottom of what was happening, from elimination diets to private testing, this is why I am doing a Test Your Intolerance Review. I got the chance to put Test Your Intolerance through its paces and tell you what I think.
We will go through my results as well as how easy it was to use, thoughts on the process and how long it took for my results to come back. So, carry on reading to find out how I got on with Test Your Intolerance.
Test Your Intolerance Review – Putting An Intolerance Test Through The Paces
If you have been wondering how to get allergy and intolerance tests, there are ways you can do this at home. I know myself, it was very hard to get them through my Doctors and was told no. Unless I was having severe reactions, they would not consider giving me any tests.
I wanted to say before I get into the review, the allergy/intolerance tests are not accepted by Doctors, mine told me that I should not exclude foods from my diet. However, I had to anyway to find out what was wrong with me. But I will get into why I actually thought the test was very helpful.
About Test Your Intolerance And How It Works
Test Your Intolerance is a part of Healthy Stuff and they offer an array of tests from both hair and blood samples. You can test your intolerances/allergies to health-related issues. I really wanted to see what came up and talk about my results. I do have known allergies so I expected to see these in my results.
The test I have done is the Prime 110 which covers 75 intolerances and 35 allergies. It is an IgE & IgG4 blood test where they check for immunological and non-immunological responses. You can also get a hair version too if you are unable to do the blood version.
It’s really simple to do, you receive a pack from Test Your Intolerance and you have your blood spot card, detailed instructions, a plaster, alcohol wipe and 2 lancets.
You swing your arm for a little while, making the blood flow. Clean your finger then use the lancet and bam, you can pop 5 spots of blood on to your card. The card is clearly marked out for the areas they need the blood. Pop a plaster on, pop the card into the envelope and pop on a stamp and off it goes!
I posted this out on Tuesday 5th October and had the email on 14th October with my results. Overall, impressed with how fast it went and how I had the results a week later.
The Results!
I know, you want to know what came up and my thoughts on it all!
So, according to the test, I have 9 allergies and 14 intolerances. They have a level system for how ‘severe’ it shows on the blood tests as well as telling you the severity and colour coded. With my results, my allergies had all low reactions and 1 to 2 dots in orange. Nothing was high on this. Then for intolerances, I had 1 that was medium and the rest low.
Allergies: Mugwort, Horse Dander, Salmon, Shrimp, Wheat, Soy, Potato.
Intolerances: Salmon (medium), squid, blue mussel, tuna, trout, oyster, shrimp, buckwheat, barley, sesame, duck, chicken, banana, green bean.
I can’t touch horses, I get rashes. But never really looked further into it as I don’t go near horses anyway. I’d wonder as a kid why I would get itchy rashes after touching horses.
Now, I am gluten intolerant so I was surprised this did not show up, but did show a wheat allergy, I will need to bring this up with my dietician. I am also lactose intolerant and this did not show up either. I have an allergy to grass which wasn’t coming up on my test either. However, I do have a lot of seafood and fish allergies/intolerances so some of them did come up.
It does state on the website that some people can have a severe result, but have no symptoms, or minor symptoms. Or they have a low result and severe symptoms. So it was something to consider especially when I was doing my low FODMAP diet and elimination diets.
Allergies to potatoes and soy were surprising, when I was doing elimination diets, I thought I had issues with nightshades (tomatoes, potatoes etc) and realised all along it was gluten. It turns out, they use flour to cover them! But I have since eaten a few things that are potato related and seemingly been fine. This is one I am keeping an eye on. I eat soy a lot in my diet, this was a strange one for me. An allergy to wheat I am keeping an eye on as I wonder if I have an allergy too.
Banana and green bean I am honestly not sure about. Sesame surprised me, I eat it a lot and never have any issues. So this one I am going to keep an eye on. Duck and chicken make sense to me, I struggle digesting meat so it didn’t surprise me. I am vegetarian anyway so I don’t eat it.
Overall, I am surprised that some things did not come up which are known allergies and was surprised at the list of seafood and fish. I never knew which ones I am allergic to, I just put them all down. This is something I am bringing up with my dietician when I see them.
It was great doing the test, easy and straightforward. Mixed feelings about the results, some are spot on.
What I Thought Of This Overall
It was very easy to use and send back, even to getting the results, everything was very fast. The results are really clear and easy to read. You will have no problem interpreting them as they are very straightforward.
Overall, it was really straightforward and I was quite surprised at some results. I expected more intolerances and allergies. I’ve changed my diet to see if there is any difference with the foods I eliminated. Overall though, the majority of the foods I don’t eat anyway are fish and seafood. Which was a very high amount listed!
I’m not 100% sure how accurate the test is, some things did come up that I know I can’t consume. However other things I have intolerances to didn’t show up so made me wonder about how accurate it is. I would say there is some accuracy, as the fish and seafood list for me was huge and I don’t eat any of it. I have seen the NHS doesn’t recommend these tests, but they are fairly new and we know the NHS doesn’t like to deviate from their path. Especially in the holistic sense.
It’s a great indication of what you might not be able to eat, but you can’t rely on this 100% and do recommend to use in combination with your doctor, dietician and specialists. I found it was accurate in some aspects, but in others it didn’t show up known intolerances/allergies. But it helped me work with my specialists and figure out what is going on with my body.
Why not check out Test Your Intolerance if you are unsure what your intolerances or allergies are.
*I was sent the test to try and review honestly in my own words.
