Top Skincare Fads – Wonderful Cult Skincare – My Skincare Routine

We all remember many skincare fads over the years and there are some I still use to this day in my skincare routine. I really wanted to write about some iconic cult skincare products. But also what products I think are revolutionary and highly rated!

Whether it was looking dewy, battling dry skin or the Unicorns, there have been many fads in the last 20 odd years I have been enjoying skincare for. From my pre-teens and breakouts from hormones to today. I still use some staple products and brands that were considered a fad!

So here are some brands and their products which were skincare fads!

Skincare Fads – What Skincare I Still Use To This Day – Skincare Routine

Liz Earle

We all heard of Liz Earle from about 10 years ago when Beauty Boxes were a big hit. Liz Earle released the very well known ‘Cleanse and polish‘ which was a bit hit with the younger generations that received a very generous sample in their beauty boxes.

I remember getting it and thinking ‘Wow, I have never used a hot cloth cleanser before’ and this made way for one of the ultimate cleansers I have used and still use daily to this day! I never thought this would be a cult skincare classic many years later! But here we are.

Beauty boxes were brilliant back in the day, I found so many brands through them, some in this post! I stopped buying the beauty boxes a couple of years ago as they were just repeating the same products and nothing was catching my eye. Apart from Love Lula which I have always subscribed to, since they launched!

I love how cleansed my skin is after using the super easy to use Cleanse And Polish. You apply to your skin, leave for a few moments whilst you get your cleansing cloth, pop in hot water and then remove the products from your skin. This never dried out my skin and really helped cleanse, take off makeup, even the stubborn stuff and left my skin soft and clean.

The Cleanse and Polish also come in a few fragrances and they have made limited editions. QVC is my favourite place to purchase Liz Earle products from which is where I got the Instant Boost skin tonic and Superskin moisturiser which I use daily.

They all have a matching scent and to this day, they are a brand I always go back to. Shop on QVC if you want the best deals, although I haven’t tried the website yet!

Balance Me

Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream. One of my favourite and still used to this day eye creams!

I always purchase this when I am running out and nothing has compared to it. In fact, I remember when I first used it and how my skin was terrible around my eyes.

So after years of use, I couldn’t stop! Balance Me I thought would be cult skincare classics and admittedly, I rarely see people mention this brand. I don’t know why as I still use their products, well until they redesigned the packaging and I couldn’t find some products that were in my skincare routine.

I then had the Radiance Facial Oil in a rollerball bottle and loved it so much, I added this to my permanent line up.

But I then found cleansers and moisturisers that I adore as well as the facial oils. But they have completely reinvented their skincare now and some firm favourites I loved are no more. Well, apart from the amazing Wonder Eye Cream and Radiance Facial Oil.

However, I am willing to try out Balance Me again and their newly redesigned products as they look just as fabulous!

Emma Hardie

What a blast this was! Everyone raved about the Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm and I managed to get it when it was restocked and loved it! I also invested in the Emma Hardie Amazing Face Moringa Face mask too which I used frequently.

Now the Emma Hardie Cleansing Balm is the first balm I had used and it opened the doors for a new cleanser for me. I’d been using the Cleanse and Polish but as it was so high in demand, sometimes it was sold out. My skin hates the usual cleansers so I needed something new.

I’d applied the lovely balm to my skin and used it in a similar way to the Cleanse and Polish and was so surprised just how nourished my skin was. It was a wonderful balm and one I still purchase to this day.

This started me on a journey for natural products and found many cleansing balms since then I loved!

One of my favourite skincare fads as I found a whole new line of skincare through this, natural products!

Mario Badescu

A more recent contributor to skincare fads which is Mario Badescu and the amazing Facial sprays!

I initially purchased the Trio of Face sprays which I since purchased them separately.

I’d heard about these on Twitter and YouTube and instantly knew I had found skincare I would continue to use for years to come.

Admittedly I haven’t tried anything other than the facial sprays and the Aloe, Chamomile and Lavender is my favourite. But I also love the Aloe, herbs and rosewater as well as the Aloe, cucumber and green tea.

I use them after cleansing, spray on my face and leave the product to sink into my skin. I also use them before I apply makeup and after removing makeup.

I’ve seen some mention they use it as a setting spray, but I wasn’t a massive fan of this and preferred them on my bare skin.

One of the popular skincare fads but they seemed to have burned out quickly and rarely see the brand mentioned now.

Alpha H

When I started getting into the world of acids, I came across the coveted Liquid Gold from Alpha H and incorporated it into my skincare routine.

I’d first used it and boy did it tickle a bit! My face stung for a few moments and I had this mental thought my face might literally melt off. But alas, this was perfectly normal and after a lip-biting few minutes, it went away.

After a couple of weeks, the changes to my skin was super noticeable and even now, I still use this product. Although I don’t get the tingle anymore, maybe because my skin is so used to it.

I’ve used other products that are similar, as below’s fad, The Ordinary! Yet another Cult Skincare brand.

The Ordinary

Everyone has at some point heard of or at least tried The Ordinary.

It was a revolution against high-end skincare, giving us the products in a less watered-down fashion and letting us be the boss of our own skincare routine.

I’d got into days of researching and finding the products I needed for my skincare routine and to this day, I still use them!

So my favourites are the Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, Niacinamide, Caffeine, Salicyclic, Retinol, Hyaluronic acid and many other products! Not forgetting the Rosehip oil which I use every single night.

But also the The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution 30ml, 10-Minute Exfoliating Facial which is absolutely amazing and well worth the tingle! This cleared my face right up when I had a period of hormonal breakouts which I get sometimes.

They gave me the ability to build my own targeted skincare because my skin can be an absolute pain in the bum and change at will. So I do tend to choose cult skincare products at the time to incorporate into my skincare routine!

There is also a starter kit that is fantastic to try new things too.

Becoming a very firm favourite brand, even to this day they still sell out of the cult favourites and one of the best skincare fads I have come across.

What is even better, they are very affordable and generally under £15. When the sales are on, they sell out fast too! These are the icons of cult skincare and a brand you need to watch out for!

Kiehls

When the Kiehls Midnight Recovery Oil was huge a few years ago, this got me loving the brand and from there I found the Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream which is a cream I use every day! The large packaging makes this cream last forever and I also love the Kiehls Daily Reviving Concentrate which they sent me when it was released!

Kiehls were very popular at one point and everyone was using the Midnight Recovery Oil which is still one of my top used night oils, with the Daily reviving concentrate being my most used daily oil. Both were at the time cult skincare brands and have been in my skincare routine for years!

There are many other items on my list from Kiehls such as face masks and cleansers that I really want to try, once I get through everything I have so far!

It’s not a brand I hear about anymore, which is a shame as I really think they are one of the best brands out there! I thought they would be a true cult skincare brand, maybe in the future!

Korean Skincare

With so many wonderful brands like Etude House, Innisfree, Tony Moly and Dr Jart+ you can be sure to find a brand that suits your skincare needs.

Again, I found so many skincare brands through Korean skincare beauty boxes and purchased quite a number of them. This opened the doors to Korean Skincare which is what skincare I still use to this day.

The face masks were the ones that sealed the deal, they brought out the best sheet masks that I had ever tried. With a wide range of masks to choose from, there is always something to try.

I still use Korean skincare, mostly the facemasks and use them a few times a week. I have well over 100 of them!

This needs it’s very own post as there are many Korean skincare brands I adore!

The Korean skincare fads were the best I have seen yet, bringing an entirely new range of products like sheet masks!

Final Thoughts

There is pretty much an entire skincare routine above, just from fads that had popularity over the last 10 years.

They are all brands I still love and use regularly, but also love to see the new things some of them bring out. Some of these cult skincare brands are worth investing in as their products will look after you and your skin.
