It’s not easy being a woman in today’s times. Many women feel uncomfortable walking the streets alone at night, or even in the daytime. That’s why it’s so important to know about the various self-defense tools for women.
There’s no reason for a woman to be helpless when she’s on her own. A woman can properly defend herself with something that can easily fit inside of her pocket or purse. So keep on reading and we’ll walk you through the main self-defense tools for women that you need to know about!
1. Pepper Spray
One of the most effective ways to stop an attacker in their tracks is with pepper spray. With this tool, you can temporarily blind your assailant and then escape with plenty of time.
Pepper spray canisters are very small and can fit in any purse. This means that you can carry it with you wherever you go.
Before you pull out your pepper spray on an attacker, it’s important that you understand how to use it effectively.
First, you need to know how many shots of spray are still in the canister. When spraying, use your thumb. Wrap your other four fingers and palm around the canister and hold it firmly so that it won’t fall.
Make sure that you keep a safe distance and don’t use it in close spaces, like a car, because you’ll also be affected then.
You want to aim directly at the target’s eyes.
2. Butterfly Knife
A butterfly knife, also known as a balisong, is a kind of folding pocketknife. It was originally invented in the Philippines.
This knife has two handles that rotate around the tang so that the blade is concealed within grooves in the handles when closed.
This is a very light and powerful knife that you can use for self-defense and also for other regular knife functions. Before you start owning a butterfly knife, it’s important that you check if it’s legal in your state.
3. Stun Gun
If you’re worried about the risks associated with pepper spray, you should consider a stun gun. You fit the base of the stun gun in the palm of your hand. The electrical part is going to rest over your fist.
The front of the unit will usually come with a bright flashlight. This will illuminate the area but also temporarily blind your target.
It should be noted that stun guns are different from TASERs. A TASER shoots out electrical probes. With a stun gun, you hold the device and strike your target with it.
