When we buy a house, we usually think of everything inside the home, but have you considered the drains outside your home?
Drains which carry waste/water from your property are to be maintained by us if they are under our property, such as the drain breaking under the toilet as an example.
Outside of the boundary of the home means that the company or council that owns the drains/sewers are the ones to foot the bill and arrange the repairs.
If you are renting the property, then this would be up to your landlord to deal with any drain issues within your home and boundary. So there is no worry about this.
Our drains can block for many reasons, such as items that are being flushed down the toilet to fats going down the sink.

How to tell your drains outside your home are blocked
Smell
You can not fail to ignore the awful smell coming from outside your home, sometimes this can also omit from inside your home also.
It literally smells like sewerage. You also may need sewer cleaning services.
Slow Drainage
If the drainage is slow for your toilet, sink and any other locations, then you may have a blockage, or the start of a blockage.
Check your internal pipes first, then if the issue still persists after cleaning and removing debris, call a professional.
Raised water levels
If your toilet has an unusually higher water level than usual, this is a sign there is something going on with your drains.
Or your toilet fills higher when flushing, rather than going down. This is a sign there is something going on with your drain.
Gurgling sounds
A little gurgle is normal, however if the sound is loud or you can hear it outside your property, then this is showing there is trapped air somewhere. More than likely a blockage or the start of a blockage.
With the above signs in mind, make sure that you are checking for these issues as it will highlight there is a blockage or the start of a blockage.
