Is Bubble Tea Good For You?

Bubble tea also called pearl tea or boba tea or bubble tea is a tea originating in Taiwan. This tea has been around since the 1980s and is made from a mixture of green tea or black tea with milk and fruit. Bubble tea is particularly characterized by its large dark tapioca pearls which can be found at the bottom of the glass and which make the drink unique. When you drink slightly sweetened bubble tea, it is usually served to you with a straw having large diameters with which you can suck the tapioca pearls.

In addition to the tapioca balls, you can also add fruit jellies or ice cream to the bubble tea to give it even more taste and consistency. You can use almost any fruit to add flavor to your bubble tea. You can use strawberries, green apples, mangoes, lychee, grapes, watermelon, pineapple, melon or even kiwis. You can also use different types of teas and milks, for example soy milk, skim milk, rice milk, coconut milk, almond milk, etc. Note that the taste of tea depends mostly on the ingredients you use, including fruit, milk and syrups. For calories, research shows that a glass of bubble tea with milk with tapioca scoops has around 38g of sugar and 299 calories.

The benefits of bubble tea

According to its composition, bubble tea can be very good for your health, especially if it is homemade: just don’t add too much sugar. Bubble tea helps boost energy in particular, since it contains natural sugar and caffeine found in green, black or white tea. Bubble tea also helps stimulate the metabolism and strengthen the immune system, since green tea contains antioxidants such as polyphenols and catechins. The fruits contained in bubble tea also provide a lot of vitamins for the body, which is beneficial for health. This drink is also an ally of the heart, because even if it contains sugar and some calories, the anti-inflammatory compounds and antioxidants it contains help protect the arteries and strengthen the walls of the blood vessels. However, you should know that you cannot enjoy all of these benefits if you buy your bubble tea in stores. The ideal is to prepare a good bubble tea at home with fresh products and ingredients of your choice, according to individual desires and needs. Bubbles tea bought in stores are often too high in sugar and in calories, which is not really good for your health. So always beware and shop responsibly!
