How To Improve Your Focus Levels
According to a recent study, 50% of adults regularly have issues with their ability to focus – leading to a wide range of academic, professional, and personal challenges. After all, a lack of concentration can make it harder to manage deadlines, meet targets, and simply get through everything you need to do within a given day.
Fortunately, there are many steps that you can take to improve your focus levels so that this becomes a problem of the past.
Play chess online. Chess is a game that requires rigid focus and attention to detail so that you’re able to beat your opponent (whether you’re playing online or in person). As such, regularly playing chess is a great way to harness and develop these skills, meaning you’ll find it easier to tap into that hardscape in other areas of your life, too.
Playing online is beneficial as it provides you with an opportunity to enjoy the benefits of chess without the hassle of setting up the board or finding an opponent to play alongside. Games are generally shorter, too, which means it’s easier to make time for them in your schedule!
Make sure that you get enough rest. If your lack of focus is having a detrimental effect on your performance at work, then you may find that you’re working late into the night to get everything done. However, this is likely doing more harm than good, as poor sleep can hinder your cognitive performance, meaning you’re likely to get trapped in a harmful cycle of late nights and unproductive days. As such, it’s important that you work to improve your sleeping habits, ideally getting between seven and eight hours of sleep each night.
There are many ways in which you can achieve this goal, starting with creating the perfect environment in your bedroom. For example, investing in a quality mattress, pillows, and blankets is key to a good night’s rest. You should also try to maintain a consistent evening routine.
Take regular breaks. On a similar note, you may feel reluctant to take your foot off the pedal if you feel as though you’re not going to tick off all the boxes on your to-do list. However, studies have shown that our brains simply are not built to focus for long periods of time. In fact, we often function at our ‘peak’ when taking regular breaks that allow us to decompress.
As such, you should make sure that you take a break when you need one, whether you’re working your way through household chores or carrying out an important task at work. You’d be surprised about how beneficial this is when you return to the task at hand, as you’ll likely find it much easier to avoid distractions and get the job done!
In short, there are many practical steps that you can take to improve your focus levels so that you’re no longer worrying about everything you have to do. This is also a great way to keep your mind sharp as you age!
