How to condition your hair and scalp


If you notice your hair thinning or falling out, you can help it to grow back stronger by intensely conditioning both your hair and scalp. Your scalp needs conditioning


Your hair needs the correct vitamins and protein to remain healthy, if it doesn’t it can become brittle and dry. Conditioning your hair keeps it healthy and soft.


Using deep conditioner on your hair


Deep conditioner is an intense conditioning for your hair, it is a thicker conditioner that can penetrate the hair. They need heat to soak into the hair. Applying a small amount of heat to the hair makes the hair shaft expand so that the conditioner can work and fill the cracks in your hair.


Any deep conditioner must be left in your hair and given time to work, so that it can soak deep into the hair. Be sure to leave it in for some time before rinsing it out, otherwise you won’t get the full benefit.


How to deep condition your hair using a dryer


Shampoo your hair with a sulphate free shampoo and rinse it out fully with warm water. Don’t use cold water as the conditioner will soak in best if your hair is kept warm rather than cold.


Add the deep conditioner to your hair from the ends for intense conditioning, avoiding the scalp where possible. Ideally a deep conditioner should not be put on your scalp, it’s meant for hair only. You need the hair to be saturated in the conditioner all the way down. If you add it directly to your scalp you can affect your hair’s natural oils and cause a build up which could cause your hair to not grow as well or thick as before.


Put a shower cap or something similar over your hair and then sit under a hooded dryer. The heat from the dryer allows the hair to open up and lets the conditioner get deep into the hair. Be sure to use a low heat setting rather than high heat, as this can cause damage to your hair. Only sit under it for about 20 minutes or less, you don’t need to sit under it for more than that.


Once you’re finished in the dryer, let your hair go back down to room temperature then rinse it out. Use warm water at first then on the final rinse use cold water so that your hair cuticles get re-sealed, sealing in the deep conditioner as your scalp needs conditioning.


Deep condition your hair using a towel


If you don’t have access to a hooded dryer or don’t want to use heat, you can use a towel instead. This can take much longer because your hair can’t get as warm quickly, it needs much longer for the deep conditioner to soak in. Your scalp needs conditioning.


The same as the dryer method, rinse your hair in warm water after shampooing, add the conditioner and then put on a plastic cap. After 10 minutes put the towel in hot water and then squeeze it out to get rid of excess water then wrap it around your head. Be sure to do this as soon as you notice the towel getting cool again. After about 2 hours of doing this your hair will be fully conditioned.


If this is too time consuming you can also put a shower cap on before bed, without having to use a towel. When you wake up in the morning your hair will be conditioned!
