Braving The Unnecessary Storm

I was expecting spring to be here, daffodils peeking out and showing a flash of yellow. The birds popping out to wake me at silly o’clock in the morning.
Mornings finally getting lighter and warmer. Glorious sun coming through my windows.

But no, not at all. This has not been the case for the last week or so.

We were hit with a storm and a blizzard that is very unusual for us.

Not only that, we have had temperatures of up to -15 degrees Celsius which is very unusual for us. I know where I am we have had way below freezing temperatures.

One thing I have noticed over the last couple of days is how people are stuck with no food, water and even gas and electric for many reasons.

Either not being able to work so they had no money, snowed in or blocked in and unable to get to shops to buy food, top up the gas and electric, power or supplies being cut off or having to choose between paying bills or food.

Some may sit there thinking ‘oh, but this is ridiculous, we are used to this’ I know right? But we aren’t. We don’t have things in place for when these unusual events occur and we are left stranded with no help, no food, no heat.

I know the costs have been rising for my bills, having to have the heating on all day just to keep warm and I keep wondering ‘I need help paying bills asap’.

I have taken more hours at work, luckily for me I work from home so I have the ability to do this. This will cover the huge bill we will be getting shortly to cover this very cold few days we have had.

I also want to make sure I have some cash put to one side should this wind get worse and start affecting the power, we we live on the coast it is really ghastly right now.
As I write this, my house is genuinely shaking from the wind.

I was lucky that we had no snow, but we have had horrific gales and we have to keep away from the sea front.
Not only that, we have been reaching temperatures of -10. I don’t think I have ever seen anything below -3 before so this coldness was new to me.

Cold of course makes some of my illnesses worse, some illnesses better. I am passing out less, but my joints and back are so painful.

I managed a food shop as we keep getting warnings of a blizzard, but this is yet to arrive.

How have you all been coping so far? I know some areas are really bad with 3 feet of snow or more!
