Five Reasons to Visit Melbourne
If Melbourne is not on your life bucket list, it should be. Australia is one of the most livable countries in the world and that’s because most of the cities there fall into the top 20 most livable cities of all time. Melbourne has been voted the world’s most livable city not once but several times. It’s the second largest city in the country, the capital state of Victoria, and it has everything you could want – including seasons – to make for a wonderful place to visit.
Whether you are a fan of architecture, live music, Victorian wineries or even Melbourne nightclubs, the city of Melbourne is often overlooked and you really don’t need to overlook it. It may not be as hot as Queensland, it may not be as natural as Tasmania, but Melbourne is one of those places that you have to visit to appreciate it. Let’s take a look at five reasons you should be visiting Melbourne at least once in your life.
- The culture. Melbourne is packed with concerts, exhibitions, markets and shops. There are film screenings that happen every year. There are opera and ballet options. You can even go to Federation Square, which is right opposite Flinders Street station. Melbourne is a cultural hub and it’s a great place to hang out with friends
- The beaches. Most people hear about Melbourne and think that it’s somewhere that’s too cold to go to the beach. Well, those people are wrong. The beaches in Australia are spectacular, but Melbourne has some of the most amazing beaches in the world. Enjoy the waves if you must, but you can sip a beer in any of the bars lined up near the shore. Everywhere you go you will hear live music and laughter.
- The food. Did you know that Melbourne has 8 Michelin star restaurants? All of them are packed with excellent chefs and all of them have enjoyed the results and reviews of a diverse population with a diverse palate. A visit to an amazing city is not a visit without trying some amazing food.
- For the shopping. Lots of people go on holiday and attempt to buy souvenirs. From Melbourne, you can hit the Queen Victoria Market for local crafts, or you can head down to Fitzroy Street for the best jewellery and artwork in the country. Melbourne has something for everybody no matter what you’re looking for, to start shopping and start saving – you’re going to need it.
- For the scenery. One of the most common misconceptions about Australia is that all of the natural beauty is housed in one state – Tasmania. The thing is, this is a rumour started by Tasmanians who have never left the state! Melbourne has parks, rivers, beaches – you can boat, surf, and picnic. There is so much to see and so many beautiful parks with a river that flows through the centre of the city. If you’re looking for nature, Melbourne has it.
