The Growth of Fashion In Australia: A Mixture of Small and Big Labels

Australia had to pick itself up and start fresh upon the end of its captivity. Many things were given a new lease of life, a new conception, and a new start in that process. In that manner, with the advent of the high-end couture stores such as  Balenciaga in Australia, one must look into how far Australian fashion has grown and reached.

New Australian Fashion :

Australia was looked at like a great big piece of earth, an isolated island, long ago. Australia was also highly linked to captivity and uncivilised beings. In that process, the native beauty and progression of Australian society were overlooked. A lot of people, a lot of ideas, and a lot of voices were shunned. However, those voices have risen today. One of the most significant artistic platforms that portray these voices loud and clear is fashion. When Europe was creating its style, Australia was building itself up, let alone venturing into fashion. But Australia is YOUNG. Oh, to be young and creative! This is precisely its advantage – youth, passion, desire, and drive. Young, yes, but not naïve. The impact of globalisation on Australia has led it to have a very well-to-do monetary-wise community of youth. The advantage of having young and hustling people who can spend is that it will be the biggest motivation for markets, especially fashion and trends. This high disposable income directly flows over to designer labels and high-end clothing. With the money to experiment, fashion becomes very creative and expressive of the different identities rising in this young nation. The big question to ask here is, ‘does big money indicate famous big labels only?’

Small Businesses In Fashion:

The answer to that is a resounding NO. Australia might have a rich youth, but it also has a very experimental youth. Something about the uniqueness of clothing led to the rise of small but chic designers. The gaps left behind big expensive foreign labels are filled by young and equally fancy but hustling small Australian businesses. Something that these small labels do which makes them important is that they play into smart fashion as well. Oh, to be beautiful! But think about classy but comfortable and working clothes. In Australia, one must be beautiful. Yes, it is common to desire beauty, but it is clever to have smart clothing too. The result of this creative approach to fashion has led Australia to have a curiously polarised market wherein 80% of the fashion market is made of small and micro-businesses. Such a fashion market position is yet to be noticed in other parts of the world. This indicates two very promising things. Firstly, 80% small business indicates a strong entrepreneurial sense among the working population. Secondly, it indicates a consumer crowd that experiments, tries and supports small and upcoming entrepreneurs.

Experimenting With Fashion:

What is the BEST thing among the above things? The combination of a YOUNG nation and a CREATIVE population leads to experimenting on a BLANK slate. While Australia is a young nation, it is free from shackles of old traditions and patterns or habits. This creates a blank canvas where the eager young creators can have a go at new ideas. As a result of this beautiful combination and process, the businesses born out of it are completely original and speak of Australia. It’s a happy thing to note that what is NOW being created forms the bedrock of pattern and tradition for Australia and Australians to come.

It is important now to appreciate the larger brands such as Balenciaga in Australia that cooperate and exist in harmony, allowing Australia to create a new identity encompassed by small and large fashion brands alike – Australia’s Signature Fashion!
