Skip New York, Visit London Instead

If you’re from the UK, then you might think it’s a bit of a hard sell to pick a trip to The Big Smoke over a trip to The Big Apple. New York has the Empire State Building, Central Park, iconic building after iconic building, while London has…polluted air and way too many people. Right? Wrong! Oh so wrong. New York may have many great things, but it’s also in America, and America has Donald Trump as a leader. Say what you want about London, but at least there’s no Trump factor. And there’s also much more….

Do You Really Know London?

People tend to have a view of London that’s not really in line with how it is on the ground. The same way, incidentally, that many Americans view New York! If you’ve visited in the past, then it’s important to ask yourself when you visited. Ask any Londoner about the city and they’ll say, ‘it’s not the same place I grew up in’ – and most of them mean it’s changed for the better. Will you agree? Head down there and find out for yourself – the city you thought you knew might just surprise you.

A Modern City

Among other things, it’s important to remember that London isn’t lagging behind New York – or any other city, for that matter – in any of fields that matter. The nightlife, despite being squeezed pretty hard, is still essentially the best in the world. There are more great restaurants in London than just about anywhere else; London is the world’s greatest city for food at the moment. Look at the Gourmet Guide – top restaurants in London list to see for yourself. You’ll find a bigger range of live music and art shows here than anywhere else, too. And also, the people – wow! A staggeringly diverse range of people all bringing their talents and cultures to a city. It’s invigorating!

Looking Back

Us Brits are a bit hard on ourselves when it comes to critiquing our own country. But there’s much to be excited about the place we call home. And if you don’t believe us, take a trip to London and see all the important things that have happened here – both in the recent past and throughout history. This city has been the epicentre for many of the big movements the world has seen over the past several centuries, and you can still be apart of/see them today. Walk the London streets and you’re walking through English history. And isn’t that exciting?!

And Finally…Money!

OK, if the above hasn’t yet convinced you that you should be visiting London for your next trip, then how about this: it’s cheaper than going to New York. While the day to day costs of London are higher than New York, you’ll have no flights to book, and you’ll also have plenty of free attractions in the city to keep costs down. If you do go to New York, you might just begin to appreciate that our main museums are largely free!
