Garden On A Budget

Some of look at our gardens and sigh as it’s not quite how we were planning on having our garden look. My thought was, well can I update my garden on a budget and my answer is yes of course.

So I knocked up some ideas of how to get a nice looking garden on a budget, of course there will be some costs involved. But a lot of things you can do quite cheap.

If you do your own labour, the costs will be much lower also.

So here we go with some top tips!

Garden On A Budget

Using recycled items

There are so many things that we throw away that can be used in your garden.

For example, the top tip would be to use plastic bottles as containers. You can cut out a little hole at the bottom or cut the feet off the bottle to allow adequate drainage.
This is a great idea if you want to start growing from seeds.

Even recycling plastic containers you get food in – these can be used to grow seedlings too.

You can find old furniture and upcycle them, giving them a coat of weather proof paint for wood, this will ensure your items stay looking their best throughout the year.

Another idea is also getting old bricks and can make a nice path out of them, usually people would want rid of them for free so will save you some money.

Make your own items

We can always find people getting rid of old pallets or wood, I see people offering them for free or a little fee quite often.

You can create all sorts from planters to benches.

I have also seen people make decking from using old pallets which is another cost saving tip!

You can also make your own things like bird feeders by old junk hanging around. Got a spare tea cup and saucer? This would make a wonderful bird feeder you can hang from a tree. Just glue the cup sideways on the plate, then use the handle to tie to the tree.

Fences/Wooden items

You can easily paint fences yourself if they are looking a bit worse for wear and repair the panels separately, rather than buying new.

Having a one colour theme for everything will give your garden a lovely refreshing look to it.

Accent your garden

Of course you will need accents such as furniture, statues and much more!

Upcycling is a great way to save some money, give them a good sanding and a fresh coat of paint.

Keep an eye on your local free cycle or selling groups on Facebook to grab some good deals with garden accents as people would rather they went to a good home rather than being thrown out.
