Thinking Of Going Self Hosted?

For about 6 months all I could think about was going self hosted.
I spent hours looking online reading blogs, reviews, YouTube videos and websites on going self hosted.

I got very frustrated on the many ways to do this, where to look for hosting, how to transfer over as I was going from Blogger to WordPress.

In short, I had no idea.

I came up with some tips for thinking about going self hosted.

1. Look for affordable hosting plans that provide enough space. Ensure they have customer support you can contact easily.
2. See if a migration service is provided with the plan, if not make sure you have copies saved just in case anything goes wrong.
3. Keep a copy of all pictures when migrating, sometimes the pictures don’t always transfer across correctly.
4. Check reviews of hosting providers, ask fellow bloggers, have a look on google and see if there is information on the company.
5. Make sure you go with a legitimate company, compare prices and see which offers the most bang for your buck.
6. Some companies have offers, discounts or check on TopCashBack and Quidco for cashback offers.
7. Watch YouTube videos and read indepth blogs of what you need to do. Some are very easy to follow.
8. Watch tutorials on how to set up your theme if you are transferring from blogger, the theme and layout does not transfer across as not compatible. You will need to do your own set up.
9. Google the different plugins you may need. Going self hosted means there may be attempts to access your blog. Any that offer protection is a must. (I will do a separate post soon of these)
10. Ask advice. If you get stuck, it may be easier asking someone who has recently done the transfer, there are some great Facebook groups around offering support and guidance. No question is a silly question.

Keep calm, if something goes wrong, it can be fixed. Don’t get stressed, take a break and go back when you are thinking clearer.

I kept getting stressed and was like ugh, this. is. driving. me. nuts.

Luckily I got loads of advice from online, groups and various other means.
