3 Online & Productive Hobbies You May Wish To Indulge

Figuring out how to spend our free time can often be quite a difficult process, because like a child in a sweet shop with hundreds of options to choose from, selecting one activity is, by implication, to not select every other option. That can feel somewhat dizzying when we have plenty of experiences we would like to have, or when we feel as though we should be productive.

Thankfully, it’s true to say that you can both spend your free time enjoying yourself AND learn a productive skill, especially if lockdown is leaving your Friday nights free and your free time strangely limited (but a lot more open than you may have expected).

But what productive hobbies might we learn in this type of context? Could it be that taking some time to focus on a goal-oriented and focused approach can help us learn more, become more skilled, and maybe use those talents for something else in the future? Just like exercising, this time can be spent in a manner that both restores us and helps us reach a worthwhile end point. Let’s say you only have a laptop and free time on your hands, what then? With our list of productive hobbies you might follow, you’ll be sure to find something that appeals to you.

Investing & Trading

it can be nice to learn about the stock market, particularly when recent news about the GME stock and retail investors recently shutting down overexposed hedge funds is on everyone’s lips. Investing and trading to this degree can be an exciting and often tangible consideration that helps us dip into markets we may have some experience in. Resources like Investopedia, reading forums like r/Stocks on Reddit, or using Forex platforms like MT4 to dip your toe into this field can be thoroughly interesting, and you may be able to build your portfolio thanks to your efforts.

Coding

Learning to code is more than just a pastime, it can help diversify your skillset and give you interesting problems to solve. The consensus is that while C++ can provide you the operational framework necessary to code appropriately and to become able to better understand other languages, Python is considered the best place to learn if you’re hoping to gain a foundational knowledge of an intuitive language, as it’s the language most of Twitter is written in (showcasing it can be used for impressive feats). With resources like CodeAcademy or Easy Coding at your back, you can incrementally learn this with care.

Blogging

Blogging is more than just posting your thoughts out there for free – it can be a great place to curate your reviews, features, news or unique perspectives on a range of topics. It might also be that you build an audience and help people with the considerations only you can provide – and from here SEO or affiliate marketing opportunities may open themselves up to you. This can help you blog more effectively, and in the long run it might help you build something of an online profile that can be used in other professional capacities. This can also serve as a useful ancillary addon to your usual career path.

With this advice, we hope you can select from three excellent productive online hobbies to see you through this strange time, and to build a better future.
