Top Tips For Travelling on a Budget
Travelling can often seem like a faraway dream when you are living on a small budget. Fortunately, it doesn’t always have to be that way. With the right tools and knowledge, you can stretch your money even further and explore new places on your chosen budget. If you’re not sure how to get started, here are some top tips for travelling more on a budget.
#1 Make a plan
When you make a plan, you can control your finances and reduce the risk of overspending. Plan where in the world you would like to travel, where you are going to stay, how you are going to get there, and what activities you are going to do when you’re there. If you know every detail of your trip, you know exactly how much to budget for, and you won’t need any more. Make sure you commit to your budget and stick to it.
#2 Don’t travel in peak times
The most expensive trips are the ones during the school holidays. Airlines and resorts will always increase their prices during these times and decrease them when the season is over, to attract people when it is quiet. Try to avoid these dates by travelling off-peak. This will not only make it cheaper, but you will also be able to enjoy a quieter break away and enjoy less queuing.
You can also look for last-minute deals. When you are travelling off-peak, you can often get a last-minute break for a quarter of the price.
#3 Explore your own country
Most people think that to have a good holiday, you have to jet off halfway around the world. What many people don’t realise is that there are many hidden gems in their own country. Consider buying a tent or looking into nova caravans, take a road trip and see what staycations you can plan. Campsites are extremely budget-friendly, and provide a great way to have fun, and spend more time outdoors. You don’t need to have any fancy equipment or spend money eating out. You will have access to the local amenities and landscapes to enjoy. This will make your budget go much further, and you can have just as much fun.
#4 Choose budget-friendly options
You don’t have to spend a lot of money when you go away. While doing tourist activities can be fun, there are plenty of other ways that you can enjoy the travel destination. Invest your time in researching online the best places to see and the hidden gems. As long as you have a mode of transport or there is public transport around, you will be able to find many activities, such as hiking, sightseeing or days at the beach, without having to fork out lots of money.
Alternatively, you could consider volunteering or exchange programs. You can then travel for free, and get your accommodation and food provided for a little work return.
Travelling can be done by anyone, with any budget, if you plan properly. You can see the same great places, with just a few adjustments to your travel methods and activities.
